Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP)

Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy is defined as an interactive process in which a Licensed Mental-Health professional working with an appropriately credentialed equine professional, partners with suitable equines to address psychotherapy goals sets forth by the mental-health professional and the client. It is a short-term experiential approach that can be utilized in conjunction with other modalities of counseling or psychotherapy.

EFP can benefit the individual who is interested in an alternative form of therapy , in addition to traditional therapy.

Initial assessments are designed to meet the client's needs and goals. General session format would consist of an experiential activity with a horse and then a reflection about the experience. Activities may include grooming, leading, lunging, and groundwork exercises.

EFP is not intended to replace traditional therapy.
